NMBio Is Recruiting Community Partners

For several years, the association’s board members have been working to build awareness of the value of the state’s bioscience and biomedical firms and their contributions to the economy of NM.

We’re now taking the next step – expanding our outreach and reputation in the Southwest and reaching for national recognition by attending and marketing the state and the bioscience community, its growing base of resources and its rising stars at national life science conferences, including the Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s annual conference, which will be held in San Diego in June, 2017.

To succeed, we need the support and assistance of community partners – organizations, associations and businesses that are already serving as ambassadors for the state and are focused on attracting firms, investment dollars and talented individuals to New Mexico as well as helping existing companies expand.

We have a good story to tell. That’s why we have reached out to economic development organizations, academic institutions, and venture firms such as the New Mexico Economic Development Department, the New Mexico Angels, the New Mexico Partnership, the City of Albuquerque and others that we are working with for the betterment of NM and the bioscience community. This link will take you to our current honor roll of strategic partners. We’d like to see this list expand to 20 partners by January, 2017 so please forward your suggestions and contacts to me. I’ll follow up on your suggestions.

BIO Highlights the Value of Biopharmaceutical Innovation

In state capitals across the nation legislators are seeking answers to why our nation’s medical system is so expensive. New Mexico is no exception. The legislature is expected to study and respond to a host of proposals ranging from approval of biosimilars to transparency in drug pricing in 2017.

In the meantime, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is seeking to reshape public perceptions after a year of finger pointing among insurers, drug makers and health-care providers.

Last month, BIO launched a new television ad focused on biopharmaceutical innovation and its unique ability to help both save lives and save money. The new ad, along with its “Innovation Saves” website, is a new chapter in BIO’s Value Campaign, which seeks to highlight the value of biopharmaceutical innovation, the importance of protecting the ecosystem that makes new cures and treatments possible and ensuring that patients have access to these important innovations.

“The cheapest way to treat a disease is to cure it,” said BIO President & CEO Jim Greenwood. “We all know people whose lives were changed or saved thanks to biopharmaceutical innovation, but what many don’t know is the impact these breakthroughs have on society. BIO is committed to not only defending the value of these lifesaving medicines to patients, but also showcasing the value they bring to the broader healthcare system.”

“These medicines can prevent or curb numerous hospital stays and doctor visits,” added Greenwood. “That’s why biopharmaceutical innovation not only helps to save lives, but also saves money.”

In our role as advocate for the state’s bioscience sector, we’ll be bringing you insights and informative updates throughout the legislative session — providing you news that may not be covered by local media. Stay tuned.

AdvaMed 2016 is continuing its partnership with TPP Healthcare, a global advisory firm specializing in deal flows that target China’s health care sector. TPP Healthcare will once again host a strong delegation of Chinese medical device, pharmaceutical and investment firms seeking strategic partnerships with innovative healthcare technologies in the U.S. The conference takes place in Minneapolis, MN, October 17 to the 19.

The TPP Healthcare China Partnering Forum provides attendees with an opportunity to understand the complexities of the Chinese health care market through a combination of company presentations, educational panels and 1-on-1 meetings. There is no additional fee to participate in the China Partnering Forum for full-access attendees of AdvaMed 2016.

In a change from previous years, the highlight of the China Partnering Forum will be a series of exclusive educational panels themed “China Capital Meets US Innovation.” The educational panels aim to assist foreign medtech companies to better understand the Chinese market and avoid potential pitfalls from both business and legal perspectives.

Tony Chu, TPP Founding Partner, and JC Sun, TPP Managing Director, will be hosting the panels and sharing their latest observations on medtech cross-border activities, and providing an insiders’ look at the Chinese MedTech market, its customers, and key success factors in licensing and product sales.

As part of the TPP program, AdvaMed and the Chinese Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI) will also participate in a panel discussion on “Opportunities and Obstacles for Medical Technology Innovative Solutions: China and the United States.”

To learn how to participate in the China Partnering Forum, please contact Derrick Li at Derrick@ThePharmaPartners.com. You can follow TPP Healthcare on Twitter and LinkedIn during AdvaMed 2016! If you have not yet registered for AdvaMed 2016, you may do so here.
